The short version
- Harbor is free. You may install and use it on your own devices.
- Use it lawfully. Websites, search engines and add-ons you use are run by others and have their own terms.
- Harbor is provided as it is, without warranties, and the developer’s liability is limited as far as the law allows.
- Harbor includes open-source software whose licences give you their own rights.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) apply to the Harbor browser for Android (“Harbor”), made by Virat Kumar, an independent developer based in India (“the developer”, “we”, “us”). By installing or using Harbor you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Harbor.
How Harbor handles your information is explained in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms.
2. Your licence to use Harbor
Harbor is free. We give you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free licence to download, install and use Harbor on devices you own or control.
The open-source components inside Harbor are licensed to you under their own licences (see section 6). Nothing in these Terms limits the rights those licences give you.
The Harbor name and logo belong to the developer. Please don’t distribute a modified copy of Harbor under the Harbor name or logo, or in a way that suggests it is the official app.
3. Acceptable use
You are responsible for how you use Harbor. You agree not to use it to:
- break any law that applies to you, or infringe anyone’s rights, including copyright and privacy;
- gain unauthorised access to, attack, overload or disrupt any website, network or service;
- create or spread malware, phishing or other harmful content;
- remove or hide the licence notices that come with Harbor’s open-source components.
4. Websites, search engines and add-ons
Harbor is a window onto the web. Websites, search engines, Secure DNS providers, speech recognition apps and add-ons are run by other people and companies. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, security or privacy practices; their own terms and policies apply when you use them.
Add-ons in Harbor’s add-on store come from addons.mozilla.org and are made by third-party developers. We do not review, endorse or support them. Many add-ons are made for desktop computers and may not work well on Android. You install add-ons at your own risk.
Harbor Shield blocks many ads, trackers and cookie notices, but no blocker is perfect: some may get through, and some websites may not work correctly with it. You can turn it off for a website in that site’s settings.
Translate page produces automatic translations, which may contain mistakes. Don’t rely on them for anything important.
5. Updates and changes to Harbor
We may release updates that add, change or remove features, and we may stop developing Harbor at any time. We are not obliged to provide updates, support or maintenance, although we try to fix problems that are reported to us.
6. Open-source software
Harbor includes open-source software, including its web engine and the content blocker that Harbor Shield is based on. Each component is provided under its own licence (such as the Mozilla Public License 2.0, the GNU General Public License v3.0 and the Apache License 2.0), which governs your use of that component.
The full list of components, with each licence and a link to its source code, is in the app under Settings > About > Open-source licences.
Where a licence requires it, the complete source code of the version included in Harbor is available free of charge on request for at least three years from the date you received the app. Email harborbrowser@gmail.com.
7. No warranty
Harbor is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that Harbor will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure or free of harmful components. Some laws do not allow certain warranties to be excluded; in that case those exclusions apply only as far as the law allows.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or goodwill, arising from your use of, or inability to use, Harbor or any website, add-on or service you reach through it, even if we were told such damage was possible.
Because Harbor is free, our total liability for any claim relating to Harbor is limited to the amount you paid for it, if any. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
9. Ending these terms
You can stop using Harbor at any time by uninstalling it. If you seriously break these Terms, your licence to use Harbor ends. Sections 4 and 6 to 10 continue to apply after that.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute relating to Harbor or these Terms will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of India. If you are a consumer, you also keep any protection given to you by the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above, and Harbor asks you to review them again when they change in an important way. If you keep using Harbor after the change takes effect, the updated Terms apply.
